A 50-man delegation of the Sierra Leone National Football Team- Leone Stars- led by the Vice President 1 of the country’s Football Association Harold Nat-Johnson has yesterday January 6 safely touched down in Douala, south-eastern Cameroon ahead of the TotalEnergies AFCON 2021.
The delegation was warmly received by CAF Protocol Officers and checked in at the Best Western Plus Hotel where the team is expected to stay throughout its period of participation in the tournament.
Leone Stars’ 28-man squad arrived in Cameroon in a high spirit and extremely motivated following the pronouncement of President Bio’s approval of a special departure package of $120,000 for players and officials. Also approved by the President was a winning bonus that was owed to the team after they defeated The Gambia by 2-1 in a friendly encounter in Morocco, October last year.
The official opening ceremony of the TotalEnergies AFCON 2021 is set to take place on Sunday, January 9 as the host nation Cameroon takes on Burkina Faso at the Olembe Stadium in Yaoundé.
Sierra Leone will play it’s first match in Group E on Tuesday January 11 against the tournament’s defending champions Algeria.
