SLFA Acting President Promises “Effective Supervision” over PLB

Acting President of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), Mr Brima Mazola Kamara has promised the Minister of Sports, Hon Ibrahim Nyelenkeh that the SLFA will effectively supervise the Premier League Board (PLB) to ensure that football becomes a key tool towards the development aspiration of the ‘New Direction’ government.

Mr Kamara was speaking at the Two Billion Leones presentation and the formal launching of the 2019 Premier League season at the Atlantic Hall, Stadium Hostels, Brookfields on Tuesday, January 22.  

“The Two Billion Leones from government to the PLB is an unprecedented gesture and as the body responsible for the running of football in the country, we will effectively supervise the first premier league since 2014,” Mr Kamara said.

The Acting President further expressed his gratitude on behalf of the SLFA to His Excellency, RTD Brig. Julius Maada Bio and his government for “their enormous contribution to the revival of the Premier League”.

He assured the public that the SLFA, under his leadership, will ensure that the effective collaboration currently existing, between the FA and the Ministry of Sports, continues to blossom for the good and development of the game in the country.

Speaking at the ceremony, the PLB Chairman, Esq. Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai lauded the efforts of the current leadership of the SLFA noting that; “The SLFA has been very cooperative and proactive to let the game play again after four years”.

“All 13 football clubs have come together and are ready to play while the people of Sierra Leone have come together for the development of football in the country,” the PLB Chairman assured.

The Sierra Leone Premier League will kick off on Sunday January 27 at the Siaka Stevens Stadium, Brookfields with Mighty Black Pool (The Tiss-Tass Boys) locking horns with their arch rivals; East End Lions (The Killers) in the 2019 opener.

Prior to the opener, the House of Representatives will take on the Cabinet Ministers in an entertaining encounter that is expected to feature the President, Vice President or the Chief Minister leading an experience Cabinet team while the Speaker of Parliament or his representative will lead the youthful and energetic House of Representatives team.

“This is to show how united we are to see football grow in our country and create a better playing environment for the many talents we have in the country,” a member of the House of Representatives said.
