LEOCEM FA Cup to Climax this Weekend in Makeni City

The Grand Finals and Third Place matches of the LEOCEM sponsored FA Cup will climax this weekend (1st and 2nd October) at the Wusum Stadium in Makeni City with RSLAF FC locking horns with FC Johansen in the Grand Finals on Sunday October 2nd and Marampa Stars take on Kamboi Eagles for the third place spot on Saturday October 1st.

Abubakarr Kamara, Head of Media at the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) said the four teams will go home with a total sum of a hundred million Leones provided by the sponsors: LEOCEM.

“The Champions will take home 40 Million Leones, the runner up will bag 30 Million Leones while 3rd and 4th place will receive 20 and 10 Million Leones respectively,” Mr Kamara said.

According to statistics made available by the FA Competitions Department, this year’s FA Cup recorded a total of 177 participating football clubs from 12 out of the 14 districts and 6 out of 14 premier league clubs. This is how the clubs participated in the various districts across the country according to the statistics available.

“Koindugu  -12, Kambia -14, Bombali - 16, Tonkolili - 11, Port Loko - 10, Kailahun - 8, Kenema - 18, Kono - 16, Bo - 22, Moyamba - 12, Bonthe - 10, Western Area -23 and 6 Premier League Clubs”.

Sorie Ibrahim Sesay, Head of Competitions at the SLFA disclosed that Organising Committee Members were able to witness each District FA Cup Finals to present the Two Million Leones (Le 2,000,000) cash prize on behalf of the sponsors; LEOCEM and further paid Two Million, Five Hundred Thousand Leones as progression fee to all teams progressing from the round of 32 on to the finals.

Several surprises and upsets were created in this year’s LEOCEM sponsored FA Cup. Major amongst them were teams like Marampa Stars of Port Loko who made it to the semis, Yambatu Stars of Moyamba and Lamboi FC of Port Loko who went out in the quarter finals, Georma Jorgor of Kailahun and Makelleh F C of Koinadugu who went out in the round of 16.
