When the hierarchy of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) decided to have an Armed Force Football team in 2000, little did they know that they would one day be representing Sierra Leone in a continental competition. As a second division club, RSLAF Football Club became a household name in 2005 when they qualified for the FA Cup quarter finals but suffered defeat to FA Cup highest winners, Mighty Blackpool. In 2008, they gained promotion to the first division under the late Coach Issa Bangura and the following year almost made it to the Sierra Leone top tier league but went out on goal difference after what many football pundits described as a stunning performance in the play off. However, three years later, the RSLAF Football Club won the Western Area First Division League which qualified them for a play off to the Premier League. RSLAF FC emerged Champions in the play off and gained automatic qualification to the 2013 premier league season. In their debut season, RSLAF ended second behind back to back Champions, Diamond Stars of Kono and since there was no FA Cup competition in the 2013/14 season, the team was registered as the country's representative in the Confederation Cup competition.
