Sierra Leone produced a commanding performance to defeat host nation Egypt 4-1 in their second Group A match of the TotalEnergies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations- Egypt 2025 on Wednesday at the Suez Canal Stadium in Ismailia.

The emphatic win places Sierra Leone at the top of Group A with four points, following a 0-0 draw with Zambia in their opening match. It also marks a historic first-ever victory for Sierra Leone in the U-20 AFCON tournament.

Captain Momoh I Kamara was the star of the night, netting a brilliant hat trick, while Saliue Bah accounted for another from the penalty spot to seal a memorable result. Despite conceding a late goal in added time of first half, the Shooting Stars dominated large spells of the game with resilience and flair.

The first half saw early drama as Sulaiman Kargbo had a goal ruled out by VAR, while goalkeeper Mamodou Wurie Jalloh made several crucial saves to deny Egypt.

Sierra Leone came alive in the second half, with Kamara striking twice in the 63rd and 66th minutes. A VAR review later awarded the Shooting Stars a penalty, confidently converted by Bah. Kamara completed his hat trick late on with a sensational solo effort, capping a dominant display.

Sierra Leone now shifts focus to their next group-stage fixtures on May 3 and 6 against Tanzania and South Africa respectively, with hopes of sealing a place in the knockout rounds.
