Press Statement from the President of the Sierra Leone Football Association
Saturday January 9, 2021
Dear family dear friends,
Yesterday the 8th of January was the closing date of the SLFA nominations for candidates vying for executive positions in the elective congress which will be held on the 27th February 2021.
What was expected to be an exciting healthy campaign atmosphere very quickly degenerated into an ugly almost fatal scene.
The physical attack with a weapon by one of our own on another family member is not only unacceptable and unfortunate but deeply worrying and sad especially as our fraternity through FIFA has globally demonstrated throughout the Covid-19 pandemic the true meaning of humanity, peace, love, and unity through football.
Violence, abuse, discrimination and any other form of intimidation has no place in football and Sierra Leone is no exception. I am of the firm belief that this matter will be brought to the Disciplinary Committee within the shortest possible time and any person or persons who have played a role in this unfortunate incident will face the appropriate penalty. The FA would like to also call on the police to assist the FA in the investigation.
On behalf of the FA and football family, we express apologies and deep regret to our brother Victor Lewis and his family over yesterday’s incident and wish you a very speedy recovery.
Football For Peace.
