Sports Minister Promises Funding for Division I & II, Women’s football Leagues

Sierra Leone’s Minister of Sports, Mr Ibrahim Nyelenkeh has promised to secure funding for the commencement of the first and second division leagues as well as the Women’s Championship immediately after the commencement of the Sierra Leone 2019 Premier League.

Minister Nyelenkeh was making a statement at the presentation and launch of the Two Billion Leones 2019 Premier League season.

“My ministry will facilitate funding for the first and second divisions league as well as the female national league. The New Direction government wants to make sure that each and every aspect of the game commences as soon as possible,” the sports minister said.

Minister Nyelenkeh further noted that the said drive would create job opportunities for youths across the country; thus making them useful citizens contributing to the development of the nation.

“Government is committed to supporting sports in the country and therefore I’m calling on all Sierra Leoneans to be part of the new dawn in the ‘New Direction’ for football development in the country,” the minister said.

The Sierra Leone Premier League will kick off on Sunday January 27 at the Siaka Stevens Stadium, Brookfields with Mighty Black Pool (The Tiss-Tass Boys) locking horns with their arch rivals; East End Lions (The Killers) in the 2019 opener.

Prior to the opener, the House of Representatives will take on the Cabinet Ministers in an entertaining encounter that is expected to feature the President, Vice President or the Chief Minister leading an experience Cabinet team while the Speaker of Parliament or his representative will lead the youthful and energetic House of Representatives team.

“This is to show how united we are to see football grow in our country and create a better playing environment for the many talents we have in the country,” a member of the House of Representatives said.
