12 female teams from around the country will for the first time engage in a National Women’s Championship scheduled to take place in both Kono and Makeni Cities respectively, according to the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) Director of Competitions, Sorie Ibrahim Sesay.
The Sierra Leone Football Association had provided the sum of Thirty Million Leones (Le 30, 000, 000) to each of the four regions as support to organize the tournament in their respective regions, which was concluded a fortnight ago.
“This is the first time that the SLFA is playing such competition, which is in line with FIFA regulation in developing the women’s game. The FA will use this championship to scout young talents for our national women’s team,” the Director of Competition said.
The opening ceremony will take place on Wednesday, August 16 at the Koidu City Stadium while the grand finals would be played at the Wusum Stadium in Makeni City on Sunday August 27.
Teams that will take part in the National Women’s Championship are as follows: Eastern Region - Jawei Queens (Kailahun), Kahunla Queens (Kenema) and Diamond Queens (Kono); Northern Region - Rising Queens (Bombali), Mena Queens (Bombali)
Patricia Umu Strikers (Kambia), Central Queens
(Tonkolili); Southern Region - Golden Queens (Bo), Ram Kay FC (Bo), Kaiyamba Queens (Moyamba), Western Area – Sierra Leone Police FC, Red Eaglet FC.
Meanwhile, the SLFA has announced a Twenty Million Leones (Le 20, 000, 000) cash prize for the Champions, Ten Million Leones (Le 10, 000, 000) for the runner up and Two Million Leones (Le 2, 000, 000) each for the four semi finalists as progression fee.
