Sierra Leone’s FA President, Madam Isha Johansen is among 15 other FA Presidents in West Africa who are currently in Dakar, Senegal to sign a long-term sponsorship deal with FOX Networks Group (FNG) – one of the largest Media Organizations in the world, after the West African Football Union (WAFU) Secretariat finalized all protocols regarding the deal.
Isha Johansen left Freetown in the early hours of Thursday December 8, to join her West African counterparts in Dakar for this auspicious occasion.
Resource mobilization was a major factor why the West African Football Union was not able to register much success, since its inception some 20 years ago. However, the sponsorship deal is expected to open opportunities for WAFU to organise competitions such as the WAFU Nations Cup (seniors) bi-annually, WAFU U-17 Championships, U-20 Tournaments, Women’s football competitions, Seminars and workshops for all - Football related activities such as in administration, coaching, refereeing and sports medicine in every quarter of the year.
“This is a remarkable signing for West Africa and I’m optimistic, this will help our national teams develop and prepare well for continental and global competitions. I’m of the firm conviction that once we kick off with this sponsorship deal, there will be no turning and WAFU will fly high,” SLFA President said.
