The Sierra Leone Football Association regrets to announce the death of a football hero and a veteran administrator, Alhaji Unisa Alim Sesay popularly known as AWOKO who passed away last evening (November 22nd around 9:34 PM) at the Choithrams Hospital in Freetown after a long on and off illness.
“You were a hero in your own right and your brilliance and love for country and the continent was one that few would question. May the Almighty forgive us all for whatever wrong and hurt we may have caused each other and those around us. We pray that God embrace you and that you find the forgiveness and peace that we all wish for in the life after. Sleep well my brother," Isha Johansen, SLFA President says.
Awoko was a former Executive Committee member during his reign as the Western Area FA Chairman and has been in football administration more than any other person in the history of football in the country. He was a CAF approved match commissioner and has served in several football committees; most of which, he was either Chairman or Vice Chairman.
He was a former Chairman of East End Lions, one of the biggest football clubs in the country before becoming a Consultant Chairman for Anti-Drugs FC; a club he founded and helped gain promotion to the SLFA premiership.
As the family prepare for his laying out and burial ceremony, the SLFA would like to express its sincere condolences to the family and loved ones at home and abroad. We pray that light perpetual shines over him till we meet again.
Meanwhile, negotiations between the SLFA and its membership as to how his burial would be graced as one family, are ongoing and details will soon be made public.
