Sierra Leone’s 30-man Delegation departs for Algeria

Ahead of the final qualifiers for the African chapter of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil, a 30-man delegation of the Sierra Leone Under-23 team has left Freetown for Algiers via Casablanca on Wednesday July 15.

The delegation was divided into two groups due to flight availability; with the first set of 17 people leaving Freetown for Casablanca in the early hours of Wednesday while the second set left in the afternoon for Conakry, Guinea where they will board the 2am flight to Algiers.

Addressing the contingent before departure, the SLFA President, Isha Johansen reminded the players that they would be representing the country and therefore should be focused and committed to the task ahead.

“You are ambassadors of this country and you are the future of Sierra Leone football. We hope that you can make us proud by eliminating Algeria as you did in Cameroon. I’m optimistic we can make it to Rio next year if we can go through Algeria. I wish you best of luck and hope you return with your heads raised up,” the FA President says.

Due to the ban on Sierra Leone home matches, Sierra Leone will be playing its home match in Algeria. The first match will be played on the 19th July while the return leg (which will be hosted by Sierra Leone) will be played on the 25th July. Both matches will be played at the MUSTAPHA TCHAKTER STADIUM in Blida; about 45 Kilometers from the capital, Algiers.

Leader of Delegation, Sirajin Rollings Kamara assured Sierra Leoneans of their commitment to raise the game and bring back the lost glory of Sierra Leone football.

Head Coach, John Keister expressed optimism noting that his boys are in high spirit, committed and highly motivated for both encounters.

The delegation comprised of 20 players and 10 officials.
