Match Report: Mighty Blackpool vs East End Lions: Koroma Strike Helps The Killers Beat Tis Tas Boys

Alhassan Koroma’s 21st minute strike punished an overzealous but poor finishing Mighty Blackpool performance as East End Lions won 1-0 at the Siaka Stevens Stadium on Sierra Leone Premier League’s Match Day 1; with more than 45000 spectators watching the pulsating and entertaining encounter.

The goal came after the host failed to take advantage of a misplaced pass in the opponent’s penalty area and a clearance by Abu Kanu put the visitors on the break. A defensive blunder on the Tis-Tas Boys penalty area gave Alhassan Koroma the advantage and he quickly slotted in for the league’s opener and the only goal of the match.

The Tis-Tas Boys got several scoring opportunities including a one on one, which Issac Davies ballooned over the crossbar.

Ibrahim Tommy was red carded after a second yellow in the 91st minute for a foul on Alhassan Koroma, who had been giving the Mighty Blackpool defense a very tough challenge and was very difficult to curtail.

In the post match conference, both coaches applauded their respective teams and paid respect to the opponent.

East End Lions head coach, John Keister said he was happy with the performance of his boys though he had wanted more goals.

“I’m happy that we took all three points from a very tough title challenger, though I would have loved my boys to get more goals. This is the beginning of a very competitive league and I’m hoping the boys keep improving as the league progress,” coach John Keister said.

Mighty Blackpool head coach, Abu Sankoh said he is not happy with the result but he is happy with the performance of his boys and the improving mentality of his team.

“We could have leveled but we failed to capitalize on the many opportunities we had. We paid for the only defensive blunder and now, we will go back to the drawing board and face our next game with the same attitude,” coach Sankoh said.
